Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, logged record highs for monthly cargo volumes in May and June.
The port logged 97,502 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in May 2022, up 4% over the previous May record set in 2015.
The port also logged 94,106 TEUs in June, up 5% from the previous June record set in 2018.
The records stem from new ocean shipping services originating from India, Turkey and Greece, Port Everglades officials said in a press release.
"Unlike the downturn that we typically experience at the end of our busy melon season, we had a spike in May and June because of the new Mediterranean Shipping Co. services from South Asia and the Mediterranean," said Port Everglades CEO and Port Director Jonathan Daniels. "We are on track to shatter our annual record from 2018."
The port is served by Florida East Coast Railway, which operates the 43-acre near-dock intermodal container transfer facility. The railroad operates 9,000 feet of processing track and 12,000 feet of storage track.
