Port authorities association turns 100
advertisement
Earlier this month, the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) marked its 100th anniversary.
Headquartered in Alexandria, Va., the association was founded on Dec. 10, 1912, as the National Association of Port Authorities. Two years later, the organization's name was changed to the American Association of Port Authorities.
AAPA has evolved from an initial meeting of U.S. public port officials a century ago to exchange organizational ideas and develop uniform administration methods to an alliance of Western Hemisphere seaports that includes more than 135 members and sports a "solid record of advocacy, collaboration and professional development," AAPA officials said in a prepared statement.
The association now is the collective voice of the seaport industry on issues ranging from trade and transportation, to infrastructure, security and the environment, said AAPA President and Chief Executive Officer Kurt Nagle.
"AAPA plays a critical leadership role in shaping the issues that affect our industry, and in informing the public and policymakers about the vital role seaports play in the world," he said.
