The Port of South Louisiana recently entered into an agreement to acquire Avondale Global Gateway, a 254-acre global logistics hub located on the Mississippi River.

The port commission is anticipated to approve the $445 million acquisition unanimously, port officials said in a press release. The purchase will help the port be more competitive in traditional international trade and focus on renewable energy development, they added.

A former shipyard, the gateway combines river, road and rail connections into a multimodal commerce center with storage and laydown space. It can be accessed by six Class Is.

Avondale is owned by T. Parker Host Inc., a ship agency, stevedoring and terminal operations company, which purchased the property in 2018. The port also plans to enter into a long-term agreement with T. Parker Host to serve as the terminal operator at the gateway.
