The Canadian government yesterday announced the award of CA$5 million under the National Trade Corridors Fund to support a rail-related project at Port of Windsor in Ontario.
The project is designed to increase warehousing capacity and speed up loading activities, such as transferring cargo from truck to rail car, Transport Canada officials said in a press release.
The Essex Terminal Railway Co. (ETR) is contributing CA$6.2 million to the project, bringing the total investment to CA$11.2 million. The investment will help relieve supply-chain congestion at the port, Transport Canada officials said. ETR operates in the port and has direct connections to CN, Canadian Pacific and CSX.
"The need for additional infrastructure to store goods at the Port of Windsor is critical to maintaining a competitive, resilient and fluid supply chain," said Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra.
