Potash exporter to build terminal at CN-served Canadian port

Potash exporter Canpotex Ltd. recently chose the Port of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, as the site for a new West Coast potash terminal, according to the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA).

The terminal will be located on Ridley Island, a 1,000-acre greenfield industrial property featuring deepwater access managed by the PRPA and rail access via Canadian National Railway Co. The PRPA plans to extend rail access and other infrastructure to the terminal.

The ability of the PRPA, CN and other parties to attract the Canpotex terminal to the port "demonstrates the strength of our bulk franchise, the benefits of Prince Rupert and Canada's strength as a bulk exporter," said James Foote, CN's executive vice president of sales and marketing, in a prepared statement.
