The government of Quebec last week announced it would contribute CA$55 million to the Montreal Port Authority's container terminal project in Contrecoeur.
Designed to support growth in the container market in Quebec and eastern Canada, the new terminal is expected to handle 1.15 million 20-foot equivalent units annually.
The project calls for constructing two berths and a container handling area, an intermodal rail yard connected to the main rail network, a reception portal for trucks and support facilities.
Preparatory work began last year; activation of the new terminal and the start of port operations are slated for 2024.
