Multimodal logistics port Rockport Terminals yesterday marked one year of rail service with Union Pacific Railroad near Corpus Christi, Texas.

In 2021, private equity firm Jones Capital purchased Rockport and transformed its 250-acre idle industrial property into a multimodal logistics port that offers storage-in-transit rail and a transloading facility, Rockport officials said in a press release. Today, the company serves customers transporting oil and gas, bulk and breakbulk commodities and renewables in the South Texas and Mexico markets.

After Rockport developed a double loop unit train facility with 15 miles of track, it partnered with UP as a service provider for the Class I's customers, said CEO Ross Stevenson. Rockport can transload to and from barge, rail and truck, and offers space for 1,500 rail cars, laydown cargo and various customer projects.

"Our goal when developing Rockport Terminals was to be the most convenient and cost-effective multimodal solution for numerous industries, positively impact the Aransas County economy and become a world-class asset along the Texas Gulf Coast," Stevenson said.
