The South Carolina Ports Authority has logged its strongest fiscal year on record for containers handled at the Port of Charleston.
In addition, the authority's two rail-served inland ports set cargo records in fiscal-year 2021, which ended June 30. The inland ports handled a combined 192,844 rail moves, up 11.7% from the previous fiscal year.
In FY2021, Inland Port Greer registered 157,842 rail moves, up 12.6%, while Inland Port Dillon logged 35,002 rail moves, up nearly 7.9%. In June alone, Inland Port Greer reported 13,383 rail moves and Inland Port Dillon recorded 2,593 rail moves.
SC Ports handled 2.55 million 20-foot equivalent units at its Wando Welch, North Charleston and Hugh K. Leatherman terminals in FY2021, up 9.6%.
Demand was strong throughout the fiscal year for containerized, vehicle and inland port traffic, authority officials said in a news release. The ports have set container volume records in each of the past four consecutive months.
