SC Ports to add service to Turkey, Israel

The Port of Charleston in South Carolina (SC Ports) is adding direct service to Turkey and Israel in April as part of its 2025 increase in weekly services.

The port has also increased its capacity for ocean carrier deployments in 2025, as its weekly services have increased from 25 to 29, mainly to the Asian and European markets, SC Ports officials said in a press release.

The ports handled 225,532 twenty-foot equivalent units in February, up 11% from last year, and 123,611 pier containers, up 10%. The growth can be attributed to an increase in imports, officials said.

Inland Port Greer handled 18,669 rail moves, up 18%, marking the second highest month in its history. Meanwhile, Inland Port Dillon had 3,412 rail moves, down 18% from last year, but trending upward since December 2024. The port handled 11,273 vehicles in February, down 28% year-over-year, although long-term growth in the sector is anticipated as automotive investments in South Carolina grow, officials said.

“South Carolina ranks No. 5 in the nation for both population and GDP growth. This will continue to drive imports and exports to our port,” port President and CEO Barbara Melvin said. “The Southeast is booming, and we are ready to support this growing market with 10 million TEUs of capacity on the horizon and an expanded intermodal network.”
