Savi Technology Inc. recently appointed former Secretary of Homeland Security and Pennsylvania governor Tom Ridge to its board.

Ridge became the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s first secretary in 2003 when President George W. Bush created the cabinet position. Appointed to helm the newly formed department in 2001, he resigned in November 2004. Ridge previously served as Pennsylvania’s governor between 1994 and 2001.

“We believe [Ridge’s] geopolitical perspective, and commitment to fostering joint government and commercial initiatives will be beneficial,” said Savi President and Chief Executive Officer Vic Verma in a prepared statement.

Savi provides radio frequency identification (RFID) and supply-chain security systems designed for maritime containers.
