Union Pacific Railroad recently introduced an intermodal service between Chicago and Monterrey, Mexico, to provide shippers another option for moving goods across the U.S. border six days per week.UP trains carrying containers will interchange in Eagle Pass, Texas, with Ferrocarril Mexicano S.A. de C.V. (Ferromex), which will provide service between the border and Monterrey. UP and Ferromex have made significant terminal, track and equipment upgrades to optimize the success of the service, will will provide companies with opportunities for growth in the ever-expanding Mexico market, UP officials said in a press release."[Our] network provides a competitive advantage to companies importing and exporting with Mexico, and recent investments made across our network are providing safe and efficient transportation that helps the bottom line for our current and future customers," said Bernardo Ayala, UP's vice president-Mexico markets.UP is the only railroad serving all six Mexican rail gateways, which go through Laredo, Eagle Pass, El Paso and Brownsville, Texas; Calexico, Calif.; and Nogales, Ariz., according to the Class I.
