Here are a few developments in the rail supply/service industry to start the week:
• Amerex Group Inc. reached an agreement to acquire X-Interchange Corp., which offers industrial and transportation consulting services, including rail transportation and multi-modal expertise. Subject to financing and other terms, the acquisition would provide Amerex with lower-cost rail transportation capabilities, offering a competitive advantage for the company's environmental remediation, transportation and treatment services, Amerex said. The deal also would enable the company to take advantage of a West Coast ethanol logistics opportunity.
• Radius Rail announced it’s introducing container service. A subsidiary of third-party logistics firm Circumference America Inc., Radius Rail now handles 20-, 40- and 45-foot containers in addition to 48- and 53-foot trailers. The company will provide transportation service for shipments moving inland from U.S. ports and "pure domestic intermodal freight," Radius Rail said.
• Atlantic Track & Turnout Co. named Ron Luedke district sales manager for the company's new Houston sales office.
• Innovation Facilities Ltd. reached a multi-year agreement with GuestLogix Inc. to provide a Web-based system to the United Kingdom's Grand Central Railway Co. Ltd. to help train crews complete on-board sale transactions. GuestLogix plans to deploy the system, which includes handheld devices and back-office software, by April's end. Grand Central Railway provides passenger-rail service in northern England.
