The Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, in partnership with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen (BLET) and SMART-Transportation Division, is launching a survey this month to learn more about information and communications technology (ICT).
ITC relates to the technology and tools that railroaders use to share, gather and communicate information. The survey responses will be used to understand how best to communicate important safety information to union members and across the railroad industry, BLET officials said in a press release.
The survey, approved by BLET and SMART-TD leadership, is being sent to a randomly selected sample of active train, yard and engine railroaders. Participation is voluntary, union officials said.
Heidi Howarth is the Volpe project lead. The project is sponsored by the Federal Railroad Administration Office of Research, Development and Technology.
