The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) and the city of Los Angeles have launched LA Secure, a joint mobile application designed to help protect riders and city residents from cybersecurity threats on public Wi-Fi networks.

Available on iOS and Android platforms, the app will alert users to threats in real time and offer information on how to avoid those threats, L.A. Metro officials said in a press release.

The app will alert users who try to connect to a “rogue Wi-Fi network,” provide phishing protection against suspicious links and validate web connections to secure user information.

LA Secure was developed by Zimperium and is free to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
