Kansas City Southern Railway Co. (KCSR) will spend about $15 million this year on rail and bridge improvements at the Beaumont Subdivision between DeQuincy and DeRidder, La., Kansas City Southern (KCS) announced yesterday.

The projects are aimed at increasing capacity and maintaining and enhancing safety on Kansas City Southern's cross-border network, company officials said inn a press release.

The work, which will replace 25 miles of rail and complete a number of bridge improvements, will begin today and wrap up by the end of next month. Communities that crews will work through include DeQuincy, Oretta and Singer.

"KCS, through its U.S. and Mexican subsidiaries, continues to invest in capital projects to expand network capacity, keep maintenance in a regular and healthy cycle, and enhance the safety of our operation," said Chief Executive Officer David Starling. "These investments also help us be an economic growth partner to our customers and the communities through which we operate."

In Louisiana, KCSR owns and operates about 915 miles of rail infrastructure; serves the river ports of Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and Natchitoches and the Gulf port of New Orleans; and serves several transload facilities.
