Kansas City Southern today announced the launch of Certified Premier Sites, a program to certify shovel-ready locations that are pre-approved for rail service.
To become a KCS Certified Premier Site, a location must go through a "rigorous" process that includes verifying access to rail services, proximity to highways, workforce availability, access to industrial-grade utilities, proper zoning and strong public-private support, KCS officials said in a press release.
KCS Certified Premier Sites can reduce the industrial development timeline by six to nine months, mitigating potential upfront risks for projects, they said.
"Prospective shippers often need a quick turnaround from site selection to shovel-ready. A KCS Premier Site saves time and money, because the site has already been carefully evaluated to ensure it has what shippers need for safe and reliable rail service," said Mike Naatz, KCS executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
KCS Premier Sites in the United States include Beaver Lake Industrial Park in Pineville, Franklin Farms in Holly Ridge and Ward 2 Industrial Park in Vivian, Louisiana; Infinity Mega Site in Columbus, Mississippi; Airport Industrial Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and Southwest International Gateway Business Park in El Campo, Texas.
KCS Premier Sites in Mexico include Interpuerto Monterrey in Salinas Victoria and Propark in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon; Node Park in San Luis Potosi; Puerta Queretaro in Queretaro; and Puerta Mexico in Toluca.
