Kansas City Southern has named Gary Jarboe vice president of mechanical operations for The Kansas City Southern Railway Co.He will be based in Kansas City, Mo., report to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dave Ebbrecht, and work closely with Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. leaders.Jarboe has more than 40 years of transportation experience. Most recently, he was director of commercial improvement for Bombardier Transportation. Jarboe also has held a variety of operations leadership positions with the Southern California Regional Rail Authority, Amtrak and CSX Transportation."We are excited to have Gary's expertise to augment the mechanical team, especially as we continue to grow our asset base at record levels," said Ebbrecht in a press release. "His leadership will be important as we expand operations in both the U.S. and Mexico."KCS also announced that it earned the Most Improved Service Award for Customer Satisfaction from the Railway Industrial Clearance Association (RICA) for the second time.The Class I attributes the award to teamwork among the sales, marketing, customer solutions and engineering departments, and customers' appreciation of the railroad's service, safety and trust with their cargo, KCS officials said in an item posted on the "KCS News" web page.Founded in 1969, RICA is dedicated to serving the heavy and dimensional transportation industry. The association's members include Class Is, regionals, short lines, shippers, riggers, port authorities, expeditors, and barge and steamship lines.
