Yesterday, Kansas City Southern announced it appointed four assistant vice presidents to consolidate management of international purchasing and materials for The Kansas City Southern Railway Co., Texas Mexican Railway Co., TFM S.A. de C.V. and Superior Tie & Timber at KCS’ Kansas City, Mo., headquarters.

To be implemented during the next few months, the consolidation will improve operational efficiency and increase KCS’ buying power, according to a prepared statement.

KCS named Michael Legg AVP of international purchasing; David Ebbrecht, AVP of international materials logistics; Robert Bayless, AVP of international fuel management; and Norman Nolte, AVP of international asset management and process control. All four will report to KCS Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Art Shoener.

Most recently director of purchasing, Legg joined KCS in 2003 after spending the bulk of his 31-year railroading career managing purchasing functions for Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific railroads.

Ebbrecht most recently served as general superintendent for the Southeast Division. He previously spent 10 years in the transportation logistics industry and nine years as a U.S. Army aviation officer.

KCS director of purchasing for six years, Bayless previously spent 20 years with the Army in international logistics.

Finally, Nolte previously served in various mechanical and transportation equipment utilization positions with Missouri Pacific and UP for 37 years.
