Last week, Kansas City Southern announced three executive promotions at The Kansas City Southern Railway Co. (KCSR) and Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. (KCSM).

At KCSR, KCS promoted Darin Selby from general director of the coal business unit to assistant vice president of sales and marketing-coal business unit. He succeeds William “Jim” Wochner, who returned to the legal department to serve as VP and associate general counsel.

Selby will be responsible for generating coal revenue, and overseeing customer service to electric utilities and other coal consumers. Since joining KCSR in 2001, he has served as assistant trainmaster, assistant director of the customer service center and director of the account management center. Selby previously held various positions at OmniTRAX Inc.

At KCSM, KCS promoted Gloria Ballesteros from director of network services and design to director of network planning and customer service; and Jorge Marquez, from director of customer service to director of revenue management.

Reporting to KCSM Senior Director of Operations Manuel Zulaica, Ballesteros will be responsible for the railroad’s customer service center. During her 11-year career at KCSM and its predecessor railroad, she has helped manage network services and the operations control center, served as superintendent for the southern region and held various service design positions. Prior to joining KCSM, Ballesteros was the Association of American Railroads’ rules coordinator for ALSTOM.

Reporting to KCS Senior VP and Chief Information Officer Scott Arvidson, Marquez will oversee the implementation of a revenue management system. During the past four years, he has held various KCSM positions involved in customer service, fleet distribution, planning, marketing, pricing and interline settlement agreements. Marquez previously served as director of operations for Telefonica’s business solutions division and sub-director of planning for the former TFM S.A. de C.V.
