Starting June 7, Kansas City Southern Railway Co. (KCSR) plans to increase train speed from 49 mph to 59 mph on its Laredo Subdivision line from Laredo to Corpus Christi, Texas.

The faster speeds will occur in the Texas communities of Aguilares, Bruni and Realitos. In Oilton, Texas, train speed will increase from 45 mph to 59 mph, KCSR officials said in a press release.

There are some exceptions on the Laredo Subdivision line where speed will not increase, however. Those include the KCSR yard limits on either end of the line, as well as in the communities of Mirando City, Hebbronville, Benavides, San Diego, Agua Dulce, Banquete and Robstown.

The faster speeds are possible due to recent track improvements, KCSR officials said.
