KCSR's Responsible Care certification renewed for three years
Kansas City Southern Railway Co.'s (KCSR) Responsible Care® Management System (RCMS) certification recently was renewed for three more years following a third-party audit by Midland Engineering Ltd.
The audit analyzed all health, safety, security and environmental management activities conducted in conformance with the RCMS.
KCSR has been a Responsible Care partner since 1999. In 2002, the American Chemistry Council adopted a management system approach for implementing Responsible Care in the United States, including mandatory and independent third-party certifications.
RCMS is based on effective and proven management practices, combining Responsible Care with practices followed by leading private-sector companies, the International Standards Organization and federal regulatory requirements. Senior management must develop, document and implement a policy that establishes a company's framework for defining and reviewing its goals and objectives, and commits to continuous improvement.
A key part of the RCMS process is mandatory certification by an independent, accredited auditor. All of the more than 220 companies taking part in Responsible Care in the United States undergo headquarters and facility audits to ensure they have a structure and system in place to measure, manage and verify performance.
