Earlier this month, President and Executive Representative Jose Zozaya, employees and a number of dignitaries marked Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V.’s 15th anniversary during a ceremony at the company offices in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
The railroad launched commercial operations in June 1997 as Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana S.A. de C.V. (TFM) after Kansas City Southern and Grupo TMM S.A. de C.V. won the concession for Mexico’s Northeast Line. In 2005, KCS — which is marking its 125th anniversary this year — acquired full ownership of TFM and renamed the railroad Kansas City Southern de México.
“These are the first 15 years of hard work and success, and we are looking forward to many more,” said Zozaya in an item posted on the “KCS News” web site.
Meanwhile, Schneider National Inc. recently marked the 20th anniversary of its operations in Mexico.
In 1992, customer Procter & Gamble asked Schneider National to establish a domestic presence in Mexico. Since then, the company has broadened its cross-border operations.
Schneider National’s offerings in Mexico include Mexico Direct, a non-stop intermodal service for freight moving from the United States and Canada into bonded terminals in Monterrey, San Luis Potosi and Mexico City, and back. KCS supports Mexico Direct service and CN supports Canada Direct service, while BNSF Railway Co. and CSX Transportation serve as Schneider National’s primary rail carriers in the West and East, respectively.
