Kansas City Southern recently expanded the scope of its U.S. Supplier Diversity Program Initiative (SDPI) to include small, disadvantaged, minority-owned, women-owned and veteran-owned businesses.
The SDPI is designed to bring diversity to the railroad’s process of purchasing products and services from suppliers, contractors and service providers.
"A diverse supply base is an important part of the procurement process,” KCS officials said in an item posted on the “KCS News” web page. “The purchasing group works with all business units and suppliers across the U.S. and Mexico to establish the best value for KCS.”
Earlier this year, the Class I was recognized by the Mid America Minority Business Development Council for contracts let last year to two local minority- and women-owned businesses.
