As further evidence that Mexico's rail industry is maturing post-privatization, a group of railway maintenance-of-way executives recently formed the country's first committee of track and structures.

The committee is charged with establishing a technical base, analyzing MOW-related regulatory activity and — sometime in the near future — creating a Mexican Association of Track Engineers, says Ferrosur S.A. de C.V. Manager Track and Structures Juan Manuel Sánchez Gonzalez.

Gonzalez serves as committee president. Other members include Gonzalo Rivera Díaz, track director, Ferrocarril Mexicano S.A. de C.V.; Fernando Osorio Rodríguez, subdirector facilities, Ferrocarriles Chiapas-Mayab S.A. de C.V.; Fernando Altamirano Zurita, subdirector track, Ferrovalle; Jorge Luis Torres Rodríguez, director infrastructure, TFM S.A. de C.V.; Alejandro Guerrero Nevarez, superintendent, Chiapas-Mayab; and Alejandro Sandoval, subdirector operations, Istmo de Tehuantepec.
