Kansas City Southern appointed Carlos Velez vice president of business solutions and marketing. He will lead business development, customer solutions, market research and sales performance functions, and report to Executive VP of Sales and Marketing Patrick Ottensmeyer.

Velez has more than 30 years of transportation industry experience, including the past 25 with APL divisions in the U.S. northeast, southeast and West Coast, and Mexico. Most recently, he was VP and managing director of APL Latin America, where he provided oversight to operations, business development, sales and marketing, administration and other areas.

“[Velez’s] reputation and credibility in the market, particularly in Mexico, where he founded the Mexico Intermodal Transportation Association, will be of tremendous value to KCS,” said Ottensmeyer in a prepared statement.
