Yesterday, the Port Authority of Allegheny County announced Amalgamated Transit Union Local 85 has authorized a strike vote.
The contract between the authority and union — which represents 2,300 port authority light-rail and bus operators and mechanics — expired July 31 and the parties have failed to reach a new agreement.
"It is our hope that the [collective bargaining] process will result in an agreement that is both equitable to our employees and responsive to our budgetary constraints," said Port Authority Acting Chief Executive Officer Dennis Veraldi in a prepared statement.
