President establishes second emergency board to investigate Metro-North, Teamsters labor dispute

MTA Metro-North Railroad and employees represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters’ Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) remain at an impasse in contract negotiations. So last week, President Bush established a second emergency board to investigate the parties’ dispute.

Within 30 days, Metro-North and union officials must submit their final contract offers. The presidential emergency board then has 30 days to submit a report to the president outlining the most reasonable offer.

The president established the first emergency board in December, but neither Metro-North nor BMWED accepted that board’s recommendations.
