New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority recently reached tentative labor agreements with eight labor unions representing about 4,200 maintenance, operating, clerical, supervisory and administrative personnel at MTA Metro-North Railroad.

Comprising the Metro-North Labor Coalition, the unions are the American Railway & Airway Supervisors Association, International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, National Conference of Firemen & Oilers, Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Transportation-Comunications Union and Transport Workers of America.

Although details weren’t released pending union ratification, the agreements would cover employees until June 15, 2010, and most contracts would be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2003. The contracts would call for wage increases of 3 percent retroactive to 2004, 2005 and 2006; 4 percent on Jan. 1, 2007; 3.5 percent on Jan. 1, 2008; and 3 percent on Jan. 1, 2009.

The authority still is trying to negotiate a contract with about 560 maintenance-of-way employees.
