Later this month, The Kansas City Southern Railway Co. (KCSR) expects to take its management training program to the next level. The railroad plans to launch a new management development program for transportation managers.

The "Foundations of Management Training" program will be conducted in two phases. The first will cover the changing role of transportation managers and the processes required to "consistently and effectively solve problems and make decisions," KCSR said. The second phase will focus on managing employee performance, communication skills, conflict resolution techniques and the basics of situational leadership. An instruction team comprising transportation and human resources management personnel will teach the program.

"We are working to implement a standard methodology to ensure consistent execution throughout the operation," said Scott Arvidson, KCSR executive vice president and chief operating officer, in a prepared statement.

KCSR plans to launch the first phase later this month in Kansas City, Mo., followed by Shreveport, La., Jackson, Miss., and Houston.
