Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railway (CSS) brakemen, conductors and engineers recently ratified a five-year agreement with the United Transportation Union (UTU).

Retroactive to Jan. 1, the pact includes wage increases, a cap on health-care contributions, productivity allowances and wage parity for workers hired prior to Dec. 15, 2010. Throughout the life of the agreement, UTU retains the right to negotiate profit sharing in lieu of general wage increases.

Owned by Anacostia & Pacific Co. Inc., CSS serves industries in Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana.
