SEPTA police officers strike

Yesterday, 200 Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) police officers represented by the Fraternal Order of Transit Police went on strike.

The strike is not expected to affect transit operations or service, and the authority has contracted a private firm to provide security at major transit facilities, according to a SEPTA press release. In addition, the Philadelphia Police Department will conduct periodical station and vehicle checks.

SEPTA officials had hoped to reach a labor agreement with the union prior to the strike. Pensions have been a sticking point, according to a local news report.
