At a ceremony to be held tomorrow in Omaha, Neb., Union Pacific Railroad plans to unveil two of five mobile classrooms that will be used for the training of local employees.

To meet various training needs at all locations, the Class I developed mobile classrooms featuring the latest technology in simulators, communication abilities and connectivity to internal systems, UP officials said in a ceremony announcement.

The mobile classrooms can provide simulation training of rail yard and over-the-road locomotive operations, or training exercises on the latest positive train control development, they said. Sessions can assist an engineer with fuel efficiency through the use of new software, or help employees with remote control yard or federal regulatory training. The classrooms will be supported by control centers in Omaha and Salt Lake City, Utah.

“With employees scattered over 23 states, Union Pacific has always had a challenging task in training new employees, and updating current employees in new federal regulations and the latest technology,” UP officials said. “Union Pacific is now able to bring the latest training technology to the employee.”
