On Oct. 2, 83 percent of eligible Great Western Railway of Colorado L.L.C. workers chose the International Brotherhood of Teamsters/Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (IBT/BLE) Rail Operating Employees' Council as their first-ever collective bargaining representative, according to a prepared statement.

Owned by OmniTRAX Inc., the previously non-unionized short line operates 80 track miles between Loveland and Longmont, Colo.

Since August 2002, IBT/BLE has organized several regionals and short lines, including the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad Co., Utah
Railway Co., Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad Corp., Indiana Southern
Railroad Co. and The Texas-Mexican Railway Co.

Pending members' approval, BLE plans to merge with IBT and become Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, a Teamsters division comprising newly created U.S. and Canadian rail conferences.
