Transportation-Communications International Union's Brotherhood of Railway Carmen Division (BRC) recently announced the retirement of Robert White Sr. as recording secretary and board member. The union appointed Daniel Freds and Gary Gibler recording secretary and board member, respectively, to succeed White and serve the remainder of his term.

During his 33-year railroad career, White served BRC as lodge president and local protective committee secretary. In 2001, he was elected recording secretary and board member, and later introduced an electronic version of the union's meeting minutes on BRC's Web site.

Since 1971, White served the Norfolk & Western Railway/Norfolk Southern Railway as a carman in Fort Wayne, Ind. He became the first Fort Wayne carman to record more than 1,000 carrier iron and wheel defects in a calendar year, according to a prepared statement.
