Canadian Pacific and Unifor Local 101R have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract for mechanical employees in Canada.

Unifor represents about 1,200 of CP's mechanical employees who are responsible for maintaining rail cars and locomotives. The previous collective agreement expired Dec. 31, 2022. Negotiations began in September 2022.

"We thank Unifor for working collaboratively with us throughout this process," said CP President and CEO Keith Creel in a press release. "This tentative agreement is a testament to the hard work, collaboration and commitment of both sides."

Details of the tentative collective agreement will not be released publicly until the agreement has been ratified by Unifor members. In the coming days, the union will provide members with information on upcoming ratification meetings, which will be held at multiple locations across the country, Unifor officials said in a press release.
