Canadian National Railway Co. and the United Transportation Union (UTU) recently reached a tentative eight-year agreement covering 300 conductors in Wisconsin, Illinois and northern Michigan. Details weren’t released pending a ratification vote, which the UTU expects to complete by Dec. 23.

“The agreement improves wages, offers job protection, [and] makes significant improvements in fatigue abatement and work/rest cycles,” said UTU Vice President Pat Drennan in a prepared statement. “It also brings conductors under the railroads’ national health and welfare agreement, which provides a medical insurance bridge between retirement at age 60 and eligibility for Medicare.”
