BNSF boots up Web page to attract candidates with military experience

To boost military recruiting efforts, BNSF Railway Co. recently added a special page to its “Careers” Web site.

Targeting candidates with military experience, including retirees, veterans and people separating from the armed forces, the page includes information on BNSF, how to transition from a military career to the railroad and military recruiting awards. Of the 3,500 people BNSF has hired this year, more than 600 were veterans.

“We are seeking applicants with military experience because we value their skills and unique experience,” said Connie McLendon, BNSF manager of military staffing, in a prepared statement. “[We’re] not interested in recruiting anyone away from the military, but once they have made the decision to retire or have completed their service obligation, we would like them to consider a career with BNSF.”

G.I. Jobs magazine recently recognized BNSF as a Top 25 military friendly employer.
