Today, the United Transportation Union (UTU) announced it negotiated a tentative eight-year agreement with Canadian National Railway Co. covering yardmasters at the Class I’s Wisconsin Central Division.

The contract would be the yardmasters’ first; the workers recently organized and chose the UTU as their bargaining representative, union officials said in a prepared statement.

The agreement calls for guaranteed wage increases each year, a signing bonus, vacation and holiday pay, and personal and bereavement leave. The pact also would establish eight-hour work days and paid overtime after eight hours. Currently, yardmasters work 12-hour days at straight time.

Soon, the UTU will present the agreement to the yardmasters and conduct a ratification vote.
