Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) members last week ratified a new five-year contract with Utah Railway.

The contract governs rates of pay, benefits and work rules for 42 operating employees. General wage increases will total 41% (46.7% compounded) over the life of the contract. Signing bonuses will be paid to employees based on length of service, BLET officials said in a newsletter.

Prior to this agreement, the last effective wage increase was Jan. 1, 2015.

A Genesee & Wyoming Inc. subsidiary, Utah Railway is a 59-mile short line that operates throughout Utah. It interchanges BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad.
