Nebraska Kansas Colorado Railway's workers join UTU

Last week, the United Transportation Union (UTU) won the right to represent workers at a fourth OmniTRAX Inc. short line. A majority of train and engine-service employees at the Nebraska Kansas Colorado Railway Inc. (NKCR) chose the UTU as their collective bargaining representative, according to election results released by the National Mediation Board. The workers previously weren’t represented.

The 559-mile NKCR — the third short line to join the UTU during the past three months — moves wheat, corn, coal and fertilizer, and interchanges with BNSF Railway Co.

In November, the UTU organized workers at OmniTRAX’s Alabama and Tennessee River Railway L.L.C.
