Canadian National Railway Co. recently reached a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers of America, which represents 2,250 CN employees who maintain and repair track, bridges and structures in Canada.

Effective between Jan. 1, 2004, and Dec. 31, 2007, the contract would increase wages and improve benefits. CN and Steelworkers officials aren't releasing details on the agreement, which will be presented to union members for ratification.

During the latest round of Canadian contract negotiations, CN has renewed pacts with the United Transportation Union (UTU), Canadian Auto Workers, Teamsters Canada Rail Conference/Rail Traffic Controllers and Canadian National Railways Police Association.

CN officials continue to negotiate terms on other labor contracts with UTU, Teamsters conference and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers representatives.
