Rail News: Labor
Today, Canadian National Railway Co. announced it reached a tentative agreement with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) division of the Teamsters Rail Conference.
Details on the contract — which covers 400 locomotive engineers working on CN’s former Illinois Central Railroad properties in the United States — weren’t released pending ratification. The agreement would take effect Aug. 1.
“The new agreement preserves the flexible work rules and hourly wage structure of the existing contract,” said Kim Madigan, CN vice president of labor relations, North America, in a prepared statement.
Adds BLET General Chairman John Koonce: “This tentative agreement confirms my belief that the hourly agreement has been the right way to go in the rail industry.”
