Last week, CAW-TCA Canada members ratified a three-year agreement with Canadian Pacific Railway — the Class I’s third labor contract to achieve ratification within the past three months.

Expiring Dec. 31, 2007, the contract increases wages 3 percent annually, improves pensions and benefits, and changes work rules. CAW-TCA Canada represents 2,600 CPR employees who repair and service locomotives and rail cars.

In January, 4,500 Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC)-represented train crew members ratified a four-year agreement with the Class I; earlier this month, 2,500 TCRC Maintenance of Way Employees Division-represented track maintenance employees ratified a similar pact. Both contracts expire Dec. 31, 2006.

The railroad still has contracts in place with rail traffic controllers and police officers (expiring at year’s end), and clerical workers (expiring Dec. 31, 2006). CPR officials continue to negotiate an agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which represents 375 signal maintainers.
