Rail News: Labor
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 382 members recently approved a three-year contract with the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). Covering 1,200 of the agency’s light-rail and bus operators, and maintenance employees, the current contract expires Dec. 10.
The new pact increases operator wages by $1.77 per hour during the next three years, calls for more notice of work schedules for new operators, and provides educational assistance and training for mechanics. In addition, UTA will fill operations and maintenance positions internally for the FrontRunner commuter-rail service, which is scheduled to open in early 2008.
