The United Transportation Union (UTU) has organized its second Alabama short line in less than a month. A majority of Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway’s (AGR) train and engine-service (T&E) employees recently voted for the UTU as their collective bargaining representative, according to National Mediation Board election results.

AGR, which operates 140 miles of former BNSF Railway Co. track between Kimbrough, Ala., and Pensacola, Fla., is the ninth RailAmerica Inc.-owned short line organized by the UTU.

In mid-November, Alabama and Tennessee River Railway L.L.C.’s T&E workers chose the UTU as their collective bargaining agent. The 120-mile short line is owned by OmniTRAX Inc.
