Amalgamated Transit Union launches strike at Denver RTD

This morning, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1001 members launched a strike against the Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD). Fifty-five percent of union members voted in favor of a walkout.

The union — which represents 1,750 RTD workers — rejected a final contract offer that included average wage increases of 10.5 percent for light-rail and bus operators, and 10.2 percent for mechanics during a three-year period. The agency also offered to split health-care cost increases, and increase the agency’s contribution to the union health and welfare fund, according to RTD.

The agency won’t provide light-rail service during the strike, according to an announcement on RTD’s Web site.
