Members of two labor unions working on CPKC's U.S. network have rejected tentative collective bargaining agreements that would have consolidated 11 contracts into two hourly rate agreements spanning 2025-2034.
The rejected agreements would have covered about 1,700 employees working across 11 states at locations now consolidated under CPKC, including the former Kansas City Southern Railway, Mid-South Rail Corp., Tex-Mex Railway, CPKC Consolidated Territory and the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) reported a 71% voter turnout, with more than 65% rejecting the agreement. The Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers - Transportation Division (SMART-TD) reported 91.5% voter turnout, with 58% rejecting the agreement.
