A Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen foundation will award four $1,000 scholarships this year to family members of seriously injured railroad workers.

The non-profit Our Brothers Keeper Foundation (OBKF) will provide one scholarship for each of four geographic regions represented by the union's regional meetings: eastern, southeastern, western and southwestern.

Applicants can be the spouse, son or daughter of a worker killed or seriously injured on the job. Applications are due 30 days before the start of each regional meeting: Southeastern Meeting Association, June 15 (deadline, May 15); Eastern Union Meeting Association, July 6 (deadline, June 6); International Western Convention, Aug. 17 (deadline, July 17); and Southwestern Convention Meeting, Sept. 14 (deadline, Aug. 14).

OBKF provides consultation, referral and financial assistance to union members and their families facing hardships arising from on-the-job accidents and injuries.
