Last week, short lines organized by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen formed a new Regional and Shortline General Committee of Adjustment.

The committee will represent the interests of more than 300 workers at 10 short lines. Other short lines organized by the union will automatically join the committee.

At meetings held Jan. 10-11 in Cleveland, committee members elected Dustin Heichel general chairman.

“Our new structure will give short lines a tremendous boost in bargaining power,” said Heichel, who serves as general chairman of the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad Corp. (IC&E), in a prepared statement.

Members also elected Dan Lorenz of the Huron & Eastern Railroad vice general chairman and eastern region chairman; John Sexton of the IC&E, alternate western region chairman; Eric Hill of the Louisville & Indiana Railroad Co., alternate eastern region chairman; Corey Carroll of the IC&E, secretary-treasurer; and Tracy Jensen of the IC&E, alternate secretary-treasurer.
