Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) members working for New Jersey Transit have begun voting on a tentative agreement governing rates of pay and work rules.

Ballots, instructions and a summary of the agreement have been mailed to active members working for the transit agency, union officials said in a press release. Voting ends April 28.

TrueBallot Inc. will conduct online and telephone voting for the agreement.

The BLET was one of 11 unions bargaining jointly as the NJ Transit Rail Labor Coalition. A tentative agreement was announced March 11 shortly before the deadline for a possible strike or lockout.

The unions have been working without a new contract for five years.
